Sunday Sofatalk

With our busy holiday weekend, I fell behind on our Friday Favorites post.
BUT
I couldn't go all weekend without sharing something, so here's a little look into our home recently... Designing your space starts with one great piece.  For our space, it is our new sofa.  At the beginning of the month, we bought a sofa for our sitting room area that is located right off of our kitchen.  We'd been talking about it since we moved in (almost a year ago), but we never had the heart to move our 2 year old's Little Tykes fort out of the room...until now.  So off we went to one of my absolute favorite furniture stores in Baton Rouge, Town & Country!  It is located in a not-so-great part of town and looks like a complete dump on the outside, but once you step inside it's like design heaven stuffed in a box.  I kind of get a little chill every time I tell people how great it is!  So there we were, just me and my husband, all alone to sit on sofa after sofa- and it was amazing!  After about an hour, we decided on the perfect one:

The Sloane Sofa from Spectra Home

(Grab this piece for around $1259)

I know what you're thinking..."She must be insane to buy a light linen tone sofa- Didn't she just say she has a TWO YEAR OLD?"  But I just love it, and amazingly my husband and I BOTH agreed on it which was a big shocker, and all the more reason to buy it IMMEDIATELY!  For just a little extra, you can invest in the Guardsman protection which lasts for 5 years (basically if you stain, spill, cut, or damage the sofa in any way then they will clean/replace it!)
Here's a few shots of how the sofa looks in our space:

(Keep in mind that this isn't the finished look...I'm just in the beginning of creating this space.)

Here's a daytime pic...

 And in the evening...

And I picked up this 6x9 Gray Jute Fringed rug at World Market!
(Grab this piece for just $149)
I knew it might be awhile before the room was completed, but I also knew a sofa without a rug was just not going to work.  This budget-friendly find was perfect to get the job done!

I think its a good start for now.  In the meantime, I am dreaming of a comfy ottoman or tufted bench and maybe a small side table.  Its a tight little space, so I will have to wait for the perfect pieces!  Please check back for more updates on the completed look!

Dining Room Sideboard

I am such a sucker for furniture, especially beautiful furniture.

Currently, I'm dreaming about this beautiful distressed sideboard.  I've been searching for ideas and the perfect pieces for my dining room, which I hope to re-do in the near future, and this one has met all the requirements.

When searching for furniture pieces, I always look for something with enough detail for it to stand out, but not so much detail that in a few years it would be dated.

With it's molding accent, wood paneled back, and distressed paint finish, this buffet has all of the  characteristics that I want in my space.  I love the size of it as well.  I couldn't find exact dimensions, but this looks to be about 12-18" deep and around 7-8' tall; a great fit for my dining area.  The color is also a great neutral, but I think this would look great stained with a rich walnut finish.

I can already see china displays, mixed in with a little mercury glass, milk glass, and greenery...

Let me know what you think!

A Season of Thanks & Decor

Tuesday, November 18, 2014

If you know anything about me, you know that I LOVE fall!  I love almost everything about it:
the cool air (but not too cool), the scents of spice, harvest, pumpkin and baked goods, the beautiful colors of the leaves and boots...you finally get to wear your boots and leggings!  I started my fall decorating in the beginning of September (probably much too soon for our south Louisiana weather, but I just couldn't wait any longer).  This is our very first fall in our new home and I just had to spread the season around.
Whether you're decorating on a budget, or have a little extra to splurge, here are some great inspirations just in time for the thankful season.  Hope you enjoy the tour!

I just had to find a spot for this antique wooden tool caddy.  I think it turned out great after I piled in the leaves and pumpkins...

Budget:  Look here Vintage Wooden Tool Caddy or search your local antique stores for a similar match.  I happened to grab mine at a local garage sale for $5, and it was filled with old tools.  I used Annie Sloan Chalk paint to give it new life and sanded the edges a bit to help keep its rustic feel.
Splurge:  Large Wooden Caddy, Primitive Wooden Carry All

And as you can see I have tons of pumpkins in all shapes and sizes.  I love the varying heights and textures.

DIY:   Grapevine Pumpkin
Budget:  Brown Ceramic Pumpkin, Large Brown Ceramic Pumpkin
Splurge:  Potterybarn Wood Pumpkins, Antique Mercury Glass Pumpkins
The burlap runner is from Hobby Lobby ($9.99), and the chairs in the background were snagged at Restoration Hardware for just $99 each. Here's the Madeline Side Chair  in Burnt Oak, but there are 5 finishes available.

I probably over-do it on my foyer entryway table, but I just cannot help myself...I love my Avery Ceramic Lantern from Potterybarn, which is sadly no longer available through their website.  But there are plenty of lantern options from various sites.  Here's a few of my favorite lanterns, vases, and urns:  Park Hill Lanterns, Bronze Hyannis Lanterns, Sicily Vases, Tuscan Urns, Marlowe Ceramics, Avignon Square Lanterns, Mission Lantern, Rope Handle Lantern
The smaller glass lanterns with rope handles were purchased from Michael's craft store
($9.99- $14.99)

I hung my Hobby Lobby wreath on my fireplace brick using Command brand hooks.

Budget:  Fall Pumpkins, Berries & Gourd Wreath, Fall Berry Wreath

Splurge:  Harvest Wreath, Potterybarn Pinecone Wreath, Potterybarn Autumn Leaves Wreath

I decorated the base of my fireplace with a large weathered white wooden lantern, fall leaves, and ceramic pumpkins and gourds.  I love the way they look against the rustic brick.

This is actually one of my favorite little areas...It's so simple, but so easy, and I just love it.  I leaned an antique frame (purchased from 4 Sisters Antiques in Zachary, La) against the brick wall in our living room and placed some fall leaves and berries underneath a lightweight pumpkin.
Here's another option against the brick wall.  So easy and so versatile!

I cannot recall where the metal stand is from, but here's an alternative to check out:

Happy Thanksgiving!

We are excited to announce the start of our design blog "Maison Greige!"

Why Maison Greige?
We want to write about all things home related, and since French design has such a dominant influence locally, maison, meaning house, seemed perfect.  And what better color to use than greige?  Its the perfect neutral--not too gray, not too boring beige.  So that is how Maison Greige got its name.

Our goal is to be inspiring.  We both love to decorate, create, and make beautiful spaces.  Maison Greige is our creative outlet in our hectic everyday lives.  Our hope is that our blog will help you come up with a few ideas to incorporate around your own home!
